Farm Manager

A fulltime position is available for a Farm Manager to join the Merced Farming team based near Wee Waa NSW. Working in cooperation with the Crop Production Manager, applicants must meet the following criteria to apply.

  • Must have significant past experience in irrigated and broadacre cropping, in particular irrigated cotton production.

  • Applicants must have the ability to manage a small team of farming staff on their farm. Proof of experience in this aspect would be beneficial.

  • Applicants should also have the ability to think strategically and have a basic understanding of agribusiness principles.

  • Full Drivers's License is required. Additional qualifications such as a Heavy Vehicle license and other industry relevant qualifications such as Chemcert and FirstAid are not a necessity to apply but would be looked upon favourably.

The successful applicant will be required to carry out duties including:

  • Conducting all farm hygiene and maintenance for the farm unit for which they are responsible, including approximately 300ha of irrigation cropping, 50ha of broadacre cropping and 500ha of grazing. This includes dragscraping of roads, delving of channels, spraying of weeds, maintenance of pumps, board drops, gates and other irrigation infrastructure. Stock work is carried out by the Livestock Manager and is not a primary duty of the Farm Manager.

  • Ensuring the proper care, maintenance and servicing of all equipment allocated to their farm.

  • Undertaking the irrigation of crops on their farm.

  • Farm Managers may also be required to participate and assist in the management of tasks across all farm units such as; harvest, planting, fertilising & cultivation of crops.

  • Assist in record keeping and maintenance of proper farm records.

  • All of the above is to be managed and undertaken with assisting farm staff. The Farm Manager will be responsible for the managing of staff provided to them and allocating tasks to them. Farm Managers will also be expected to play a role in ensuring the company’s Workplace Health & Safety policies are adhered to and safety on farm is maintained.

  • Farm Managers will be working under the management of the Crop Production Manager and will be required to assist in planning and report to the Crop Production Manager.

The position will involve an above award remuneration package including a salary (paid fortnightly) and compulsory superannuation, a work vehicle and may include accommodation if required. Our farms are located close to Wee Waa (8km) and Narrabri (32km) so could allow for the successful applicant to live in town if preferred. Ongoing training and development opportunities will be provided to applicants throughout their employment and further training is encouraged and can be facilitated.
